CEO Statement

The Dubai economy has experienced enormous growth over recent years and contributing to this has been a vibrant retail and trade sector. With a contribution of almost 40% to GDP, the retail sector in Dubai has much to be proud of.

The Dubai government has a goal to position the Emirate as one of the best shopping destinations in the world and supporting this is the Department of Economic Development (DED).

Through the Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment, a DED agency, and the Commercial Control and Consumer Protection Sector of DED, we have been charged with the responsibility to ensure that the retail sector continues to grow and coupled with that, continues to be transparent and regulated.

The ´Be Right know your Consumer Rights´ is our campaign to raise awareness of the Consumer Rights Federal Law (24) 2006. This introduction of this law has paved the way for consumers and retailers alike to operate within a framework which will only benefit both groups with very clear guidelines on both retailers and consumers rights and responsibilities. In the case of any issues that may arise following the purchase of products or services, the Consumer Rights law will also provide much needed clarity on how these will be resolved.

The Dubai DED is the only government department dedicated to raising awareness of consumers' and retailers' rights and responsibilities and through the Commercial Compliance and Consumer Protection Division, the Department will also deal with any relevant disputes.

I would like to reinforce that it is our intention to support both retailers and consumers and offer solutions as per Federal Law Directives when a mutual decision between retailers and consumers cannot be reached.

I hope the information presented on our dedicated website will be of great benefit to you and will reassure you that you can shop with confidence right here in Dubai.
